About the Artist
A native of Atlanta, Mary Akers spent her early years wandering the parks along Peachtree Creek. Her entire life she has been influenced by the arts through painting, drawing, and quilting. The first artistic inspirations and encouragement came from her maternal grandmother who helped to raise her and her mother.
Mary attended Georgia State University with a focus in the arts. Since then, she has studied with many prominent teachers across the country including,Cledya Curtis-Neal, James Sulkowski, Coe Steinwart, Kathy George, and Beverly Harding.
Her works are in private collections across North and South America.
Her inspiration and subject matter are driven by her love of nature and people.
She draws her talent from the higher power within and is very grateful to God for her many blessings.
She currently resides with her husband and children in Roswell, Georgia where their home borders the banks of the Willeo Creek.
